FAQ

How long does cedar last outdoors?

Cedar is naturally rot‑resistant and typically lasts 10–15 years outdoors with basic care. Untreated pine may last 2–4 years; pressure‑treated can last longer but may leach chemicals into soil. Annual re‑application of Garden‑Seal helps your planters last as long as possible.

Do you stain or paint?

No. Cedarhaus uses only Garden‑Seal non‑toxic wood sealant. It preserves cedar’s natural look, repels moisture, and stays safe for edible gardens—no stains or paints.

Can you make custom sizes?

Yes—every project is custom. Odd sizes, extra‑deep beds, narrow spaces, corner fits, matching trellises—send your dimensions and Jake will build it to fit.

How heavy are cedar planters?

Cedar is surprisingly light compared to hardwoods or pressure‑treated lumber. Most boxes can be moved by one or two people, especially before soil is added.

Do you line the inside?

Cedar + Garden‑Seal performs well on its own. Some clients add breathable liners to further protect soil/wood contact; Jake can suggest liner options if you prefer.

When should I order to be ready for planting?

The earlier the better. Beds installed in late winter or early spring let soil warm sooner, which means faster growth and stronger plants. Ordering now ensures your garden is ready when the season starts.

How much does it cost?

Prices vary because every build is custom. As a rough guide, popular items include a 4×8 raised bed, a pair of custom window boxes, or a trellis planter. Send your dimensions for a fast quote.

Do you deliver to my area?

Yes—Cedarhaus is just outside SUNY Albany and delivers across Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Hudson Valley, Saratoga Springs, Lake George, and beyond. Delivery is $50/hour of driving from outside of SUNY Albany. Pickup is encouraged if you’re nearby.
